Madaar is an online and mobile civic media technology platform that seeks to facilitate local and regional social engagement in order to strengthen social bonds within the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) community.

A new MENA region is being born through the struggle of those who have come to be known as the “miracle generation.” Intellectuals of the region have coined this term “miracle generation” to describe a generation of young people who are mobilizing at historic levels and pushing for profound social and political changes in their communities.

They need tools to enable them to share, organize, coordinate, and spread information at local, national, and sub-regional levels. Madaar is a platform that not only empowers individuals with social networking capacity, but also results in a media publication that, being crowd-sourced, gives voice to ideas and perspectives that may not otherwise receive attention.

Madaar’s key features include: 1) multiple user profiles to express different aspects of people's identities, user-created groups, 3) geographic tools for networking locally, 4) The Madaar Majlis: An online crowd- sourced mock parliament, and 5) The Madaar Periodical: an online news publication.
