At the Interior Design Program’s 50th Anniversary, alumni Gary Hutton and Larry Peifer, current chair Amy Campos, and former chair Katherine Lambert, reflect forward with Faculty Emeritus Hank Dunlop. Hank taught at the college for many years, after working at Gensler as the firm’s first interiors hire. He had an immense impact on the interior design field at large and on design education at CCA. The group share stories about their time learning and teaching at the college, discuss the rapidly changing field of interior design, and posit possibilities for the future of the field, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the ways that we work and live now. Hank also shares his thoughts on supporting the next generation of designers. To this end, and to mark this milestone anniversary, the college has established the Hank Dunlop Endowed Scholarship for Interior Design in his honor. Walter Landor was a brand designer and entrepreneur. He was a proponent of branding and consumer research techniques widely used to this day. Brands as diverse as Coca-Cola, General Electric, Japan Airlines, Levi Strauss, and Shell Oil all benefited from his vision and commitment. He also designed many labels for canned food, beer, and liquor brands. Landor was a faculty member at CCAC in the 1940s in the industrial design and interior architecture programs. Landor was also a fixture in the Bay Area, initially conducting his business out of a retired ferry boat docked off a San Francisco pier. He created branding for Muni and BART, as well as writing a guide to "Exploring the Exploratorium".
