Capsule 8 is a pop-up clothing retail space created by Marisa, Ryan, Changlin, and Nicholas. At the start of the Fall 2016 semester we were given the task of creating a pop-up store for the category clothing. The team started with secondary research, defining areas of interest; athleisure, recycled, custom/tailored, and capsule. From these four areas of interests, we set out to do street intercepts. We found pain points and areas of opportunities of clothes shopping.
After several group discussions around our research, both primary and secondary, we decided on a capsule collection. Capsule is a wardrobe collection of a few essential items of clothing that don’t go out of fashion, such as coats, collared shirts, plain t-shirts, and jeans. This defined product category was perfectly suited to solve our people problem statement of “I am overwhelmed by my closet and shopping. I have a lot of clothes, but nothing to wear, or that fits”.
With our defined retail space set on a capsule collection we began to …
The anticipation and excitement of expecting a child have increasingly been diminished by the stress of finding accessible, quality childcare. With no uniform situation or system, navigating childcare has become overwhelming and stressful for parents & guardians. Options vary from family, friends, nannies, in-home daycare & centers. There is no single platform to aid families. We are Flutter, an aggregate marketplace that balances a family’s constraints (time, money, & location) with all their available childcare options. Through flexible schedule building Flutter allows parents and guardians to have all their childcare options in one organized place.
Global climate change is increasing the frequency and severity of extreme weather. “A recent study says we can expect the oceans to rise between 2.5 and 6.5 feet (0.8 and 2 mt) by 2100, enough to swamp many of the cities along the U.S. East Coast. More dire estimates, including a complete meltdown of the Greenland ice sheet, push sea level rise to 23 feet (7 mt), enough to submerge London.” Flooding Rebranded will attempt to mitigate the impact of flooding on coastal regions within the United States. The objective being to foster a sustainable model for prevention & recovery.
Our solution: REVERB, the integration of ‘eco-barriers’ into human settlements via a supporting framework. REVERB centers on two primary stakeholders: victims (or affected peoples) and natural ecosystems. Municipalities & federal government entities are considered as tertiary stakeholders in the implementation process. REVERB creates a framework for the implementation of natural/living systems to enhance (& protect) human settlement…
In the 2014 midterm elections 91.8% of young people DID NOT vote. Team Creative Code designed "Us - Be the voice. Vote." to connect with this audience. It is a campaign that highlights an individuals community to increase voter turnout. In this context, what is community? It is the people you interact with everyday. It is your family. It is your friends and your acquaintances.
The campaign is comprised of a series of physical interactions:
1. AN IMPACT REMINDER. Highlighting an individuals direct impact on their community with a token.
2. COMMUNITY CONNECTION. Capturing attention with urban art installations centered on: ‘You are the face of California. Be the voice. Vote.’ It captures the image of the individual and connects it to a greater body of citizens.
3. AFTER THE BALLOT. Moving the community to celebrate their voice and vote after the election.
For art-lovers who attend festivals and seek to celebrate the occasion, Nail Canvas is a pop-up nail salon that transforms the moment into nail art. Unlike other nail services, Canvas partners with local artists to craft designs specific to the occasion.
Wear the moment.
Misuse of data is a serious problem. But perhaps equally as troubling is the fact that many users are not sufficiently aware of how exactly popular apps and platforms work, how their engagement is optimized, or what’s being tracked and collected.
In our project, we identified: growing amounts of data being collected and sold, negligent click-throughs of terms and conditions, ”smart” tech, facial recognition technologies, and awareness by organizations as evident and emerging trends. We also created a CLA and a poster for a possible future of Bio design.
